  NEW PRACTICE ON 
  TRADEMARK REVOCATION IN   RUSSIA

  The Russian Chamber on Patent   
  Disputes recently adopted a new   
  stance in trademark revocation  
  procedures.

  Under the previous trademark law
  any person could file an   
  application for trademark   
  revocation if the registered mark 
  had not been in use for an 
  uninterrupted period of 3 years.

  After January 1, 2008, a new   
  Russian IP legislation came into 
  effect. Under the new law only 
  "an interested person" could file 
  an application for trademark 
  revocation. The law did not
  clarify what "an interested   
  person" means, and during 2008   
  the revocation procedures 
  therefore remained the same,
  i.e. any person who filed an 
  application for revocation was 
  supposed to be "an interested
